PEACHTOBER 2022 - #19 BOOT

When I first reached this prompt, I found myself in a bit of a conundrum; after already focusing heavily on the image of a boot for the ‘Cowboy’ prompt earlier in the month, I didn’t want to repeat myself… But I also wasn’t quite sure where to go.

Initially I had planned to incorporate words with a sentiment similar to: ‘Give stigma the boot’… Keeping that in mind, I explored related synonyms for boot and walking. Eventually, I landed on ‘Stomp’ and that led me to think about the underside of a boot, and how tread patterns lend themselves to being art pieces.

I had The Most trouble trying to fit ‘Stigma’ into the heel space. Even though it would have been preferable to have all of the letters next to each other - Why must ‘M’ require so much space?! - I found this configuration after much back and forth, which I’m fairly happy with.

All in all, I’m really pleased with the final concept of this piece. Particularly how I shot and traced the underside of one of my own boots, then customised it with lines and lightning bolts to really personalise it. A punchy piece!
